Little Palm Island is one of the many hidden gems that the Florida Keys has to offer, but
this one might just be a little more special than the rest. Over the years, many famous
people retreated to Little Palm Island to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
President Harry Truman used to come here with his fishing buddies while John F. Kennedy
came to watch the filming of the movie PT-109 that chronicled his war experiences. Since
then, people from many different backgrounds have come to Little Palm Island in search of
rest and relaxation and without a doubt, it can be found here. First of all,
no cars are permitted on the island. Guests of Little Palm Island must get there by either
ferry or seaplane. One can almost feel their cares slip away as the ferry takes them from
civilization and towards a Swiss Family Robinson type atmosphere. Secondly, there are no
televisions on the island. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty
rather than that that comes out of a television set. This paradise on earth is not for
children, as children under the ages of 16 are not permitted on Little Palm Island. This
is a wonderful place to enjoy a romantic getaway or a vacation with friends. Located just
28 miles away from Key West, Little Palm Island seems to inhabit its own gorgeous corner
of the world.
